I had the great opportunity to work with Andrew over at Poliigon, famous for his Blender tutorials on his Blender Guru youtube channel. Many people around the world had their first introduction to 3D through his donut youtube tutorials (a new set of videos released recently for Blender 3.0 that you can view here). With the recent rise in Cyrpto and NFT's, Andrew saw the perfect opportunity to experiment with a new medium.
Andrew called out his viewer base on twitter asking them to send in donuts created from his previous tutorials. This would be combined into a "collective" larger donut comprised of the communities donuts. This, in combination of a "bakers dozen" collection of donut NFT's would create base of the content of this website. My role was to design the website, allowing for the specific set of features that comes with an NFT showcase website (plus some fun bonuses).
What a fun sentence, one that I definitely did not think I would ever be writing.
In addition to just showcasing the NFT's, the site also allows you to search "The Collective". You can search a database of users donuts and find individual donuts that make up the whole. You can either go through the donuts one by one, or search for your individual donut if you contributed!
This was one of the many pages I designed, this one in particular was a challenge just to be user friendly on mobile. Knowing that a lot of traffic to the site would likely come from twitter and on mobile devices, having a perfect mobile experience was absolutely required. The rest of the pages were also a fun design challenge, which ended up being quite similar to a traditional eCommerce design with collection pages and product pages.
The complete project has not launched yet, so keep this page bookmarked for updates! I'll be sharing some more screens once the final project is released. Keep up to date with Andrew's twitter for updates on the project. Once it is live, get involved!
It was great fun working on this project, not only for the overall theme, but I had been wanting to work on a NFT project for a long time. It has all the hallmarks of a project that interests me, with the addition of the opportunity to dive deeper into a new industry.
