Poliigon is a marketplace that offers textures, models and other assets for 3D artists. If you look close enough, you would be able to see their assets in some of your favourite movies, games and other projects.
When I joined Poliigon, one of the first projects I was tasked to work on was flipping the whole site to "dark mode". This in combination with a number of user interface (UI) improvements, would see Poliigon looking much different for its dedicated user base.
There were a number of improvements we wanted to make to the Poliigon site. A number of these things were just small, quality of life improvements that would make a difference to both new users and power users.
For Poliigon as a service to provide the most value to its users, reducing any road-blocks to exploring, searching and downloading assets was extremely important.
As a summary, the interface had to do the following to be successful:
We introduced a more prominent search feature on the homepage and navigation bar. This allows users to more easily find the assets they are looking for if searching by keyword is their preference.
If they prefer searching by category, they can now more easily search through assets using the category search bar. This has been redesigned to be more user friendly and clearly structured.
Another part of this project was redesigning the "Asset Modal". This component is the popup that displays once the user clicks on an asset preview. Now this asset modal more clearly shows the asset preview and provides more relevant information.
Users can now more easily update their download preferences, and more easily receive their intended download package. Additional improvements to this flow are currently in the works, so keep an eye on the work and blog pages on Frae for updates.
There were also a number of improvements made across the board to status visibility. Assets more clearly show their credits, prices, tags and other additional information. Account information is also much more visible and clearly structured, as well as error and status messages across the site.
Keeping the user informed of all actions and their status within them is extremely important in reducing confusion and friction points in the customer experience.
Creating a more exciting visual experience was only an additional benefit of this projects process. The small user experience (UX) improvements across the board really help improve the daily use of the product, and ultimately increases its value.
This first project was only one of the initial steps in the digital transformation of Poliigon. There are still a number of things to do, many of which are currently in the works. Keep updated with my blog and works pages, as well as Poliigon's Blog to stay up to date with progress!
